Lassi
Thick, hand-churned yogurt drink from Punjab, made sweet with cardamom or savory with roasted cumin and mint — a shared staple of both Indian and Pakistani Punjab, not just a fruit smoothie.

Ingredients
- 2 cups thick plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup cold water or milk
- 3 tbsp sugar (for sweet lassi)
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (for sweet lassi)
- 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder (for salty lassi)
- A pinch of salt and black salt (for salty lassi)
- Fresh mint, for salty lassi
- Ice cubes
Steps
- For sweet lassi, blend the yogurt, water or milk, sugar, and cardamom until smooth and frothy.
- For salty lassi, blend the yogurt, water, roasted cumin, salt, black salt, and a few mint leaves until smooth and frothy.
- Pour over ice cubes and serve immediately, garnished with a little extra cardamom or mint.
